The Parish Field was gifted to Chappel Parish Council by Reuben Hunt back in the 1920’s and has been owned by the Council ever since.
Over the course of 2009 we were able to secure grant funding of £10,000 from various bodies including the Essex Environment Trust, Essex Biodiversity, the River Colne Countryside Project and BTCV, to plant one half of the Parish Field as a Community Orchard, and the other half as a Wildlfower Meadow. The orchard has nearly been completed (we are sourcing the last 20 or so trees) and the wildflower meadow was planted in the Spring og 2009, but will take several seasons to establish.
